![]() Building a craftsdwarf's workshop near this stockpile can allow you to turn out thousands of bone bolts or crafts and keep the stockpile from completely filling up. If you wish to expediently clear the refuse left over from such battles without chasming it, it can be a good idea to construct a large, enclosed refuse stockpile right near the chasm. If you then chasm the carnage of the battle, more attacks will occur, which can lead to almost constant assaults. Chasming refuse is hazardous, however, as it incites attacks from the chasm-dwellers. From the orders menu, select refuse to specify which types of refuse should be chasmed. The chasm can be used as an unlimited refuse dump. If you pour enough magma (water will not work) into the chasm, it will eventually get a red line running down its center, meaning all the creatures have been killed. These monsters usually mount assaults of 5 to 20 or more creatures at a time. The chasm is home to several aggressive creatures – primarily ratmen, batmen, and antmen. ![]() The chasm tends to make sharper turns than the river, and its offshoots are always straight and between 1 and 2 spaces wide. This obstacle is between 3 and 5 spaces wide, and angles between 148 to 200 spaces from the cliff face. Like the river, you must build a bridge over it to get past it. The chasm is the second major landmark encountered within the mountain (the first being the cave river). A miner has found a large chasm cleft through the mountain. Please feel free to add your own suggestions, I will see what I can make of it. Other kinds of traps are labyrint creature rooms with locking doors, creature bombs(try pits, bridges, really fun), bait etc. Traps: I have done this before with snakes, but pit falls filled with all kinds of creepy crawlies are not only exceedingly fun and messy, it sends a message, and is rather effective. Specifically gladiatorial combat and target practice for marksdwarfs. What immediately springs to mind is military practice. The supply in the cavern is never ending, and coupled with the fact that breeding seems rather quick, allows me a few options. If troglodytes are friendly towards elves, I would have a problem. Naturally all my traps and devious devices are designed with elves in mind. My civilization has been decimated in a grand war against 3 elven civilizations, and except for a few captured citizens (including the king) most are now living in my fortress. Now I am imagining pit falls filled with starved troglodytes as a defensive mechanism, but if they only scurry around scared before finally attacking much later, that would quickly become an issue.Īnother issue that I need clarification on is how troglodytes react to elves. Specifically they seem to start off as non-aggressive for a while before suddenly turning on you causing havoc. ![]() One of the annoying traits of troglodytes is their timer on aggressiveness. This warrants designing a system for which to make sure I have "Free range" trogs. I have also seen that females are not supposed to breed in cage traps, which means the ones I have probably where already pregnant. ![]() While this is obviously a limitation, I have a steady supply of troglodytes from the caverns, so achieving a large population won't be too big an issue. However I would like some help with a few issues before I change my fort into the Troglodyte fortress of doom.įrom my research it seems like a troglodyte takes about 10 years to mature, and coupled with the limiter, where a population of creatures will not produce children beyond 75% of their population, breeding can become slow. Naturally it is the dwarven way to seek interesting applications of all things, and I have been coming up with some interesting ideas for the way to use this feature of Troglodytes. I had accidentally turned off the hauling of animals, and turned a cage trap line into a troglodyte breeding pit basically. I discovered recently that troglodytes make a lot of babies.
